Teaching Philosophy

Loving the instrument. One of the great successes I experience as a teacher is knowing my students enjoy playing; My entire philosophy boils down to that. Whether that means playing fun and exciting music, moving at a fast pace, or whatever they call for. Each lesson will be special to that student.

Long term vs. Short term goals. The first thing I want to know about a student is what their long term and short term goals are. This is an essential step for the student’s success in lessons. After this, we can begin to work and each lesson will be tailored to what the student wants to achieve.

No two students are the same. While I have goals for students to reach while studying under me, none of them will be tied to the age of the student. Since each student learns at their own pace, every goal will be individual to them.

Life lessons. Not everything learned in clarinet lessons are directly related to the clarinet. Students will also indirectly learn about how to be detail oriented, time management, problem solving, and work ethic.
